The brain is an amazing organ. It controls how we think, what we do, how we cope, make decisions, get along with others and many other important aspects of our lives. This workshop looks at the latest research on brain development, how the brain develops, the importance of the first years of life and what you can do to help children in supporting a healthy brain. Barriers to healthy brain development will also be discussed.

CGD-1 The Impact of Domestic Violence on the Developing Brain (for Providers)
Domestic Violence is more common in our society than we would like to think. This workshop will discuss what domestic violence is and how it affects infants and young children. We will look at the latest brain research and learn exactly how domestic violence impacts brain development. We will also learn how our brain leads to our behavior, and how domestic violence can have a lasting impact. Some strategies will also be discussed on how to help children who have been exposed to domestic violence.
